Access Control

UNC Charlotte’s Access Control systems play a vital role in maintaining the safety of our campus. By using electronic credentials (such as 49er ID Cards) and centralized access scheduling, we help ensure that buildings and rooms are accessible only to authorized individuals, while remaining responsive to the needs of the University community.

Policy Compliance: University Policy 719

All access control operations are governed by University Policy 719: Access Control. This policy:

  • Defines roles and responsibilities related to electronic and physical access.
  • Establishes procedures for issuing credentials and managing access rights.
  • Requires departments to follow University-approved processes for requesting and maintaining electronic locks and keys.

Requests for reports from the access control software system should be requested online, and must be approved by Public Safety Technology.

Requesting Electronic Access Devices

Departments may request installation or modification of access control devices such as:

  • Electronic Locks (badge-access readers)
  • Panic Buttons (for emergency response activation)

To request any of the above, submit a work order in ARCHIBUS. Requests will be reviewed by the Department of Safety and Security in coordination with Facilities Management to ensure compliance with policy, infrastructure compatibility and funding requirements.

To request access to a room on campus, log into ARCHIBUS and follow these steps:

  1. Go to “Access Managment”
  2. Click on “Access Customer” (if prompted)
  3. Click on “Request Room Access”

After completing the request form, your submission will be submitted for approval or denial by the appropriate manager. You will receive updates via email.
