Chief Baker joined the UNC Charlotte team in 2009 after spending twenty-eight (28) years as a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) serving many diverse assignments prior to retirement. Baker earned his BS Degree from Gardner-Webb University as well as an Associate’s Degree from Central Piedmont Community College. He was awarded the North Carolina Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate in 1990 and is certified by the North Carolina Training & Standards Division as a General Instructor and Specialized Firearms Instructor. To list a few of his many accomplishments, Chief Baker was awarded the Charlotte Police Medal of Merit for bravery in the line of duty, he has received the Governors Highway Safety Program Award, and he was named Campus Safety Director of the Year in 2013 by Campus Safety and Security Magazine. Baker currently sits on the Board of Directors for North Carolina Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (NCACLEA) and in his most recent career achievement, he became a graduate of Leadership North Carolina Class XXII (2015).
